- Data released by the General Administration of Customs of China show that from January to August 2023, China’s e-cigarette export value was approximately US$7.285 billion, the export volume was approximately 144,100 tons, and the average export unit price was US$51.14/kg.
- Philip Morris International (PMI) released a “zero tobacco” cigarette stick called LEVIA on September 28, which includes tobacco, mint and other flavors and can be used with IQOS heated tobacco products.
- A survey by the Russian statistics agency Best Doctor found that more than half of Russians (55%) support a ban on the sale of vapesto minors. In addition, nearly half of Russians (46%) advocate a complete ban on the sale of vapesand e-liquids.
- The Nielsen convenience store report in the United States shows that the market share of British American Tobacco’s e-cigarette brand VUSE fell from 41.7% to 41.5%, while the market share of second-ranked JUUL remained unchanged at 24.7%.
- British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak proposed at the Conservative Party Conference that he plans to raise the legal age for purchasing cigarettes year by year, aiming to create a “smoke-free generation” and consider strengthening the control of e-cigarettes to guard against tobacco dependence among young people.
- Due to the decline in cigarette production, the last cigarette factory in France will close in December 2023. Currently, legal tobacco sales in France continue to decline. Most of the cigarette production in Europe is concentrated in Germany and Poland.
- The Portuguese government is considering a new bill aimed at regulating the use of vapesand other tobacco products, with the main goal of expanding the scope of no-smoking areas.
